Birmingham, Al Staycation

Skot and I recently had a rare chance to getaway not for just a few hours but for a whole night! We did a little staycation in our wonderful city of Birmingham, Al. We used Hotels.com to find our “perfect somewhere” for our night away!

Before I get into the details of our stay, I want to take a minute to rave about the great the search features on Hotels.com! No matter your budget, style of hotel you’re looking for or location, Hotels.com has the perfect place for you! So after narrowing down which part of Birmingham we wanted to stay in, we used the amenities search filter to find a hotel that had a restaurant on site. We wanted to be able to relax in our room and walk to a lovely dinner… which we did!

We booked The Valley Hotel in downtown Homewood for our little staycation! It is such a beautiful boutique hotel that has so many unique decor highlights throughout. The lobby boasts a double sided fireplace with plenty of comfortable seating. It’s a perfect spot to enjoy a cocktail before dinner.

We had dinner at the hotel’s restaurant, Ironwood Kitchen and Cocktails. The cocktails and food were so fresh and delicious. If you are lucky enough to go yourself, here’s what we had and would recommend:

  • Double V ‘Vodka & Vulcan’

  • Maple Bee’s Knees

  • Smoked Ahi Tuna Tartare

  • Chef’s Catch

  • Coriander Crusted Ahi Tuna

We also had a fabulous chocolate lava cake for dessert. The whole dinner and service was fabulous and I can’t wait to go back!

Another great thing about The Valley Hotel is it’s proximity to so many local attractions, shopping, and nightlife. It’s within minutes of the Birmingham Zoo, Downtown Birmingham, the Sunmit, UAB, Samford University, and much more. After dinner we took the short drive to downtown and continued the fun night away! We rented electric scooters and zoomed around the area near Region’s Field. It was seriously so much fun. We then ventured into a nearby brewery and chatted with the friendly bartender before heading back to our hotel.

The Valley Hotel’s bed is one of the most comfortable I have ever slept on. Between that and the room’s black out curtains, we slept so wonderfully. Skot woke up early, per usually, and went on a bike ride through nearby neighborhoods. I woke up to him returning with a lovely lavender latte from The Valley Hotel’s exquisite coffee shop.

After having a slow, peaceful morning in our room, we walked to near by shops and boutiques. Then we had brunch at Ruby Sunshine. There was a wait so after we put our name on the list, we took a stroll in the quaint neighborhood surrounding the restaurant while. Ruby Sunshine was delicious though and we left to go back to reality with full bellies and rested bodies!

I hope this post encourages you to book your own staycation! If you do, be sure to find your perfect somewhere on Hotels.com .
